Borg and Beck Limited, in their letter of the 8th inst. to Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls} have raised the following points in connection with our N. Sch.4435. We also give our remarks where necessary:- (1) Flywheel material to be .6 carbon steel friction surface being ground polished. (2) In view of the use of a self sealing bearing for the spigot the special oil slinger plate previously suggested to be incorporated in the driven plate, but will not now be necessary. The deletion of this plate will give increased clearance between the driven plate damper springs and the flywheel nuts, which is thought to be desirable. (3) The driven plate hub is their standard type which they will arrange to cadmium plate. (4) They suggest cast iron for the nose on the gearbox front cover, but we wish to try aluminium for the sake of lightness. (5) They say that their thrust bearing housing is only suitable for use with grease. We have dealt with this on N. Sch.4465 (Hdy.{William Hardy}1/HP.17.4.35). (6) They point out that the flywheel section we show will not accommodate set screws at a smaller radius, as required by the 10" clutch, which it is also desired to try. We show the necessary modification on N. Sch.4461 herewith. (7) The dowel to prevent the clutch from being reassembled in a different position, which they show on one of their | ||
