Borg and Beck Clutch - Bentley.

N. Sch.4465 herewith shows modifications to the clutch thrust bearing housing intended to prevent oil from entering the clutch, and also giving better retention of oil for the bearing.

The design previously shown on N. Sch.4435 was that shown by Borg and Beck who now state that their scheme is only suitable for use with grease lubrication.

As now shown by us the inner race of the bearing is mounted on the non-rotating housing and the outer race is in an oil tight housing from which surplus oil will escape at the rear end and be thrown clear of the clutch.

This construction lengthens the bearing of the non-rotating housing on the gearbox extension which will improve the efficiency if the load is not evenly taken by the operating shaft levers.
