X3678 By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}2/LG215.20. X.3614. W AMERICAN BUILT CAR. We consider that America should be warned of the following improvements which we hope to incorporate on our cars shortly :- 1. Thermostat Control. X.3563. X.3678. This has now run 7,000 miles and we have no doubt that in the course of two or three weeks, standard-isation sheets will be issued. 2. Friction Clutch. X.3350a. X.3683. We consider also that the improved Friction Clutch should be fitted to all American Cars. 3. Magneto Drive. X.3530. X.3897. 2.EX Car which ran 10,000 miles in France is fitted with a fabric type Magneto Drive. There are still modification being made to the original design and when we have proved these out we expect to standard-ise the fabric joint for Magnetos. We think this is a point which would most probably pay America to hold up on. 4. Petrol Tank. X.3687. We are also preparing a special Petrol Tank for the American Car. We should like to hear from you whether they are holding up on the tank or whether they are going ahead with their present standard one. In view of CJ's latest instructions that the two Cars should be identical, it would appear that it is not possible for the American car unless it is also used on the Cars made at Derby.
