| ( 2 ) 6) Eccentric wear of front tyres. With balanced wheels, the N.S.F. tyre remained practically in balance throughout its life. The O.S.F. behaved as follows:- Mileage. Out of balance. 2647 8 oz/ins. 3421 14 oz/ins. 4340 35 oz/ins. 5724 60 oz/ins. These show a marked improvement over all previous front tyres run on this car. Balance weights are therefore recommended. [Handwritten note next to section 6: GRY{Shadwell Grylls}] 7) New position for Exhaust tail pipe behind N.S.R. wheel. This seems to have made a big improvement in stopping fumes entering body, and is recommended. [Handwritten notes next to section 7: WITHIN Good] [Handwritten note at the end of section 7: Instructed] 8) Spring loaded joint at rear end of side steering tube. This has overcome the joggles complained of and has also been tried successfully on 9.B.V. The sponge is not seriously apparent with zero castor (as on these cars) but with I.1/4° castor as instructed for production it is not so good, as the heavier steering emphasises the sponge. (This was tried on 9.B.V). We recommend a reversion to zero castor for production, as it has proved better in all respects. [Handwritten notes next to section 8: F.T.H. HA] 9) Hand brake ratchet mechanism. This is too easily jammed up by dirt either with or without a shield. We recommend that an arrangement similar to 9.B.V. be developed. [Handwritten notes next to section 9: DUNCAN HAD] [Handwritten notes at the end of section 9: Will fit Bowden control to next French car] 10) Undersheets. These have been found necessary all the way along the offside to behind the gearbox. They have been rigged up and can be seen as a guide to the design required when the car returns. | ||
