-2- The above battery was submitted by the makers as an alternative for the Bentley chassis. The following figures are the result of a comparison test, between the standard Bentley Exide 'nine plate' battery and the Lucas 'nine plate' battery. Ambient Temperature 19°C. Terminal P.D. after 5 seconds at 280 amperes. Lucas 12TXR9 8.2 volts. Exide 6MXR9 9.66 volts. It will be seen that the Lucas battery is only 88% as efficient as the standard battery. Recent tests have proved that the standard battery will only just do its job and for this reason we cannot recommend this type of Lucas. We have also tested the Lucas battery in use on the Jaguar and find this very good in respect to test (1) being easily the best of its type suitable for Bentley or Wraith which we have yet tried. Test results are as follows :- Exide 6XCMR11 Standard 25/30 Wraith 9.7 volts Dagenite 6HDZ11/0 " Wraith 9.71 " Lucas 12TXW11 Jaguar 9.92 " Lucas 12TXR9 8.22 " (at 280 amperes 19°C.) The weights and dimensions of the five batteries are as follows. Weight Dimension. Exide 6XCMR11 Standard 25/30 Wraith 72 lb. 15 oz. 14 3/4" x 6 3/4" x 8 1/4" Dagenite 6HDZ11/0 " Wraith 68 lb. 5 ozs. 13 1/2" x 6 3/4" x 8 1/4" Lucas 12TXW11 Jaguar 72 lb. 8 oz. 14 3/4" x 6 3/4" x 8 1/4" Lucas 12TXR9 62 lbs. 8 ozs. 11 1/2" x 6 3/4" x 8 1/4" Exide 6MXR9 Std. Bentley 64 lbs. 8 ozs. 11 1/2" x 6 3/4" x 8 1/4" From the above tests we can recommend that a Lucas 12TXW11 be obtained for trial on the Wraith, but cannot recommend the Lucas 12TXR9 for use on the Bentley. We anticipate that the price of the Lucas eleven plate battery would show an appreciable reduction in cost on the standard 25/30 type battery.
