1339 EXPERIMENTAL DEPARTMENT. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/FJH.{Fred J. Hardy - Chief Dev. Engineer}20/JH. 27th June. 1938. Messrs. British Tyre & Rubber Co.Ltd., Thames House, Millbank, LONDON.S.W.1. For the attention of P.W. Howard Esq. Dear Sirs, We have tested the two sets of British Goodrich 6.50 x 17 tyres which you have sent us. In order to distinguish the two types of tread we attach diagrams of the tread patterns marked curved rib tread and straight rib tread. The attached graph shows the rear slip angle of the Goodrich tyres compared with the best India tyre we know. As will be seen the Goodrich tyres are hot as good as the India, but the difference is not great and from this point of view they are satisfactory. We have however rejected the curved rib tread as it is too noisy. The noise is a low groan similar to a bad axle. The straight rib tread is reasonably quiet and we propose to continue to run on these tyres to determine their life and generaly behaviour on wet roads. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LTD. | ||
