X.3888. RE BRAKE ACTUATING GEAR.

We send you herewith drawing Lec.1321 shewing the above. The brake cables instead of being sweated directly into the connecting forks, are sweated only into the taper ferrules shewn. This enables the sweating operation to be kept more under control, and it is expected that the portion of the cable passing out of the fork, which will be called upon to will have no solder in it.

In this design the cable lever, and the brake shaft levers, each have a total active movement of 30º.

Adjustment is effected by shortening the pull rods by means of the special forks shewn, and this provides a range of movement on the brake actuating shafts of 60º.

Mr. Royce would like a model made immediately of one of the forks of the forward ends of the pull rods, where the pull rods join to the middle portion of the calbe, levers, so that he can judge whether the fitting is of a suitable size, He would like the model made as soon as possible, and sent to West WitteringHenry Royce's home town.

E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer}
