To R.{Sir Henry Royce} from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} C. Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} Sor. C. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} C. W. Hdy.{William Hardy} C. Sft.{Mr Swift} Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}9/KT.4.1.33. K5520. 20/25 HP. SHOCK ABSORBERS. We have got to decide now to order up further materials for shock absorbers. We are issuing a Standardisation Sheet for the latest type shock absorbers. These shock absorbers should be the latest type with the single valve suitable for automatic control. Shock absorbers of this design have run 12,000 miles on Peregrine in France, and except for oil leaks have given no trouble. Modifications for overcoming the oil leak are in hand and should be satisfactory. This type of shock absorber has definitely been decided upon for Peregrine and Bensport, and therefore as soon as possible we want to bring all cars into line. We admit there is a certain amount of risk because at the present time our present standard shock absorbers have reached a high degree of reliability, but if we wish for any form of control either automatic or hand, we must go over to the new type. We shall next week be sending 18-EX car (P.II) to France fitted with these latest shock absorbers. We are following up with another Peregrine. Also we expect to send out J.2. or J.3. so that any troubles which are likely to arise should be eliminated before any 25 HP. cars are produced with these new shock dampers. The risk we are taking is that we may have to scrap a small amount of material if modifications have to be carried out. Taking all the points into consideration we recommend that the material is ordered for new type shock dampers. Sft.{Mr Swift} has agreed that the Works can wait until the end of this month for the final drawings provided we release dies and patterns. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
