To Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from BJ. Copy to R. {Sir Henry Royce} BJ13/H28.12.22. X4264 20 HP. THROTTLE LEVERS. RECEIVED DEC 29 1922 I attach a copy of PN {Mr Northey} 9/DN22.12.22. This seems to us a matter of considerable importance. Doubtless these adjustments will right themselves in time, and we appreciate that everything cannot be done at once. We are of course anxious that the owners of 20 h.p. cars shall find them as easy to drive as possible, as it is these little things which do much to make or mar the reputation of a car. I recently drove a 20-h.p. R.R. and found that the engine stopped if the throttle lever was not more than half open. It seemed to me a pity to lose half the utility of the lever, and changing speed by means of the accelerator on a rough road is by no means the most certain or simple method. I am sending a copy of this to R. {Sir Henry Royce} , who I am sure will appreciate that these suggestions are not sent with the intention of criticism, but only with a view to their possibly being helpful. It seems probable, however, that it is an adjustment which could be made at the Works and not a matter of design. B.J. | ||
