re 3 1/4 Litre Bentley Chassis 16-200.
--------------------------------

A meeting of Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Sft.{Mr Swift} Hm.{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs} and K.{Mr Kilner} was held to discuss the position of all incomplete sections on the Bentley production, and the following recommendations are put forward in connection with same.

(1) Sec. 5000. Crankcase and Bearings.

In connection with the camshaft balancer, the enlarged oil pocket supplying No.1. camshaft bearing experimentally instructed by Design is reported to cure the trouble with the end faces of the bearing running dry, and this modification should be instructed to P.O.
Apart from this point the cam balancer section is cleared and Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} is circulating a standardisation sheet for it forthwith.
This balancer is fitted to the first 15 and to the 10,000 mile car, and it is recommended that production should go ahead.
Instructions for the modified oil pocket mentioned above are now issued.
With regard to the flywheel whistle, experiments are in hand with the crankcase bored out .125" more in diameter, and the result of this should be known within the next fortnight when a recommendation can be made regarding the treatment of the crankcases already cast.
It is considered production of crankcases could go ahead up to the first 100.
It is recommended that the flywheel teeth be left unaltered as the reduction in height of the addendum does not give enough increase in clearance to make it worth while impairing the silence of the starter gear.

(2) Sec. 5010. Crankshaft.

It is recommended that we go ahead with the two stud balance weight crankshaft complete. The 10,000 mile car is fitted with this type of crankshaft.

(3) Sec. 5040. Piston.

It is recommended we go ahead with piston EB.1026. it is also recommended that the improved heat-treatment should be adopted at once. The 10,000 car will be fitted with pistons of this type.
