X3066 To EY. from EFC. EFC4/T5.4.24. X.3066 - RE STANDARDISATION SHEETS FOR SECOND STRINGS. We are, as you know, issuing a second string standardisation sheet to cover the use of EG2 Morganite brushes in place of Le Carbone Z brushes in case of failure of supply. There is also another case cropping up, that of the Elliott ammeter in place of the Weston. We have reported that we consider the Elliott ammeter would be a fair substitute in case of failure of supply, but it is definitely not as good as the Weston. The only point We are wondering about at the moment is, is the expression "Failure of supply" suffic-iently definite ? Might a temporary difficulty in the supply be used as a lever for placing an order for some second string apparatus on the strength of the standardis-ation sheet, which, as we have agreed, it is necessary to issue to cover the use of such second strings in any circumstances. ?
