Re: Complaint on GUL-58 - John Croall & Son, EDINBURGH. We have examined the petrol pump RB.{R. Bowen}1000. It had been returned as faulty from Scotland. The chauffeur had found the rollers gummed up and cleaned them. This gum we have found to be due to the diaphragm material G.1, and not to jointing compound as at first suspected. The diaphragms were both shrunk, which is probably the real cause of failure. That the pump functioned after cleaning the rollers is explained by the fact that the chauffeur had assembled the pump with a very short stroke, and having dismantled it the diaphragm would be able to draw in from the edges.
