X.682 - 7 CA CAR

With reference to the petrol consumption on this car Mr. Platford has run this car for a long run. The consumption when going fast and covering ground is 16 m.p.g. if the speed is reduced to about 25 m.p.h. and best consumption is tried for 19 to 20 m.p.g. can be obtained. This consumption is a great improvement of what this car used to do, taking into account present petrol.

Commander Briggs when he was at the works suggested that it would be most convenient for him to send his car in about 10 days.

X.3074 We are getting on well with the new rocking arms, they have had to be made from the solid. The cam formers both milling and grinding should be ready in a week or 10 days. X.2937B.

The point which is going to hold the job up, is that they cannot be ground on the existing camshaft grinders. No alterations are yet instructed to make the necessary modifications so that they can be ground. Although we agree that the proper solid camshaft is what we ought to have, we know that if we wait for the alteration to the cam grinder the Summer will be gone. It must be borne in mind the cam grinders are used continually on the Aero Engine work so that the machine cannot be held up.
