We have returned the above unit in order that it may be prepared for 15,000 miles test. To be dismantled, inspected and re-assembled as follows:- INSPECTION and measurement of:- (a) Crankshaft, main bearings, big end bearings, cylinder bore, valves, and clearance of tappets in crankcase. (b) Crack test of crankcase, inlet and exhaust valves, pistons. ASSEMBLY. Assuming existing parts are in good condition and no replacements are required.- (a) Increased inertia balance weights on crankshaft to EW.1544/5. (b) Piston rings which Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Mths.{Reg Matthews} will supply. These are individually cast rings and second compression ring of L.section (Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}471) and (EW.1536). (c) Blank up fling holes in outer rim of damper wheel. (d) Blank up trial holes drilled by us in the centre plate. (e) Water heater taps in cylinder head and water pump. (f) Set damper load at 22 lbs. at 17 1/2" rad. (g) Existing carburetter which incorporates mods. by Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/GR.{George Ratcliffe} (h) Up-to-date induction pipe, also air silencer and bend required LOP.EW.1505. (i) Thermometer in cylinder head as instructed by Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std. to SCD.177. (j) Increase the diameter of the tappet holes in the base of the cylinder block to 1.375 in accordance with Alt. 19328/E to prevent risk of tappets fouling. continued | ||
