GOSHAWK 11. DISTRIBUTION BOX.

In reply to your memo. Hy{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer}1/P21.4.22. we have a scheme in hand whereby we hope to carry two small bobbins of fuse wire on the bottom side of the distribution box cover, but within the cover. Mr. Royce considered the question of making this cover in bakelite, but decided against it on account of we believe, weight, and expense, and also the fear of it being broken.

We quite appreciate the advantages of using bakelite and if you have made up any covers out of this material we should be glad to have a sample so as to judge of the practicability of the scheme.

With regard to the lining for the existing tin cover we suggest that this should be made up of layers of paper pressed on to a suitably shaped formand stuck together with varnish, the formed shape of varnished paper afterwards being inserted in the distribution box cover and fixed with some adhesive. It is unfortunately not practical to line the metal cover right down to the edge so that there will always be a certain amount of possibility of causing sparks if the cover is carelessly put on. We have considered schemes for ensuring that the cover is guided from the very beginning when being replaced but as yet we have found nothing sufficiently simple.

E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer}
