X5670 Expl. Dept., Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd., Derby. 25th August, 1925. EFC {E. Fowler Clarke - Electrical Engineer} 3/T. Hotel de France, Chateauroux, Indre, France. To GWH. {George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux} from EFC. {E. Fowler Clarke - Electrical Engineer} Dynamo on 9-GIII. X9962 From your description of the phenomenon it appears that imperfect action of the control brush alone would be a sufficient cause, though it is not impossible that this is associated with the somewhat imperfect contact of the positive brush at the same time. You do not say that the trouble only occurs when the dynamo is cold, though you say that after switching on the dynamo once or twice it started to function O.K. There does not appear to be any reason to suppose that there is anything amiss apart from the brushes and commutator, so that if you have not already cleaned these with a rag moistened with paraffin to remove the oil films, we suggest that this would get rid of the trouble. It is possible also that a slight amount taken off the control brush with a file at the critical spot would prevent a redevelopment of the trouble. EFC. {E. Fowler Clarke - Electrical Engineer} | ||
