Phantom III.
Reversed Oil Seals, Yoke Piece Lower Bearing,
Front Suspension.

We are sending herewith N.Sch.4779 showing the reversed "Perfect" oil seals in the yoke piece lower bearing, the object being to exclude water from that bearing. This was instructed in Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}2/HP/28.2.36, and N.Sch.4779 shows a modified thrust washer, the previous arrangement being such that when the seal was reversed the sealing edge of the leather washer came outside the join between the thrust and adjusting washers and so would be liable to be nipped between these washers during assembly, in addition to making assembly difficult. This modified thrust washer should therefore, be used whenever the oil seals are reversed.

With this new arrangement the overall length of the bearing assembly is adjusted to suit the triangle lever jaws by grinding the small end of the thrust washer, and the adjusting washer previously required is no longer necessary.

We should like the reversed oil seals to be fitted experimentally as soon as possible.
