Bentley / Mr Barrington} [/crossed out] EFC Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}1/LG1.5.20. X.4050. Re. TYRES. We should like an opportunity of testing the Dunlop straight sided tyres as soon as possible. We suggest that in parallel with their own tests they might let us have some of their straight sided tyres to run on our cars. We have a good stock of wheels to suit these tyres. We have a pair of 895 x 135 Dunlop straight sided tyres which they supplied to us some months ago; these tyres have run 3,400 miles on the front of a car; they are still in excellent condition. We have had no trouble with them. The criticism we have against the Dunlop straight sided tyres compared with the American straight sided tyres is the fact that the walls of the tyres are much stiffer. This makes the process of changing tyres on a demountable rim much more difficult. One has to compress the tyre all the way round in order to get the ring on. We should be glad if you would send the above criticisms on to Messrs. Dunlop and get to know from them whether it is possible for them to let us have some 895 x 150 or 895 x 135 tyres. You might [word crossed out] add that we are continuously running a car in testing our own parts for 10,000 miles so that we could soon let them have comparative mileage with other makes of tyres.
