X1166 Exptl. Dept. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}29/KW. 28th November, 1935. Messrs. S. Smith & Sons (M.A.) Ltd., Cricklewood Works, London, N.W.2. For the attention of Mr. Nichols. Dear Sirs, We thank you for your letter dated the 25th November. We are positive from our records here that the failure of the Jacking System on 21-G-IV could not be attributed entirely to mineral oil in the system; the outstanding evidence supporting this is the fact that one of the jacks failed half an hour after your representative left, having filled it with correct fluid. We have not been able to carry out an independent analysis because none of the fluid is left. We agree that the system on the 25 HP. car gave more trouble than any other we have previously had, and that recriminations possibly do not help us to get a better job. We are just commencing another 10,000 miles run on the 20/25 HP., which should give us further information on this particular system. As soon as the Phantom III arrangement is available, we shall give it extended tests. We return the letter from Silvertown Lubricants Ltd. herewith. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LTD. | ||
