Further to my telegram of the I.5.37, and in reply to the above, I instructed Scholes to return and he should have arrived at the Works this morning. GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux} left word that Scholes could remain until there was no further work for him to do but that he must on no account drive. I should have liked him to have stopped and finished his work on 6.B.IV. making it fit to drive home, but as you telegraphed, I sent him off. We got 6.B.IV, running last night and Pennal has left with it this morning, to cross on the night boat from Dieppe and should arrive in Derby to-morrow if the rear axle stands up. The car will need to be completely stripped to ascertain the full extent of the damage. Please note that there is a sleeve on the 3rd motion shaft in the gearbox with a sheared pin, and that the floating bush that runs on this sleeve was distorted. The frame has gone badly and the rear axle is scrap. We have straightened it up and hope it will last till Derby. Dixon is having wonderful weather for his tests. I have conveyed your remarks to him regarding obtaining all possible information before returning. GWH.{George W.
