Trouble was experienced on several occasions with the chamge speed lever sticking on the 1st & 2nd side of the gate, and it was necessary to give a sharp jerk to get it across the gate.

This was found to be due to the guide pin not standing truly vertical and in line with the shaft due to it not being a good fit against the casting of the gate to which it is fixed by four 2 B.A. studs. This allowed the shoulder on the pin to foul when trying to enter the washer in the end of the gear lever shaft, and is illustrated on the sketch herewith.

Is there any reason why the pin should not be the same diameter all the way along? What is the reason for this shoulder ?
A drain hole for the gate casting would be desirable.
