+3317 Exptl. Dept. HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}3/KW. 7th July, 1934. Messrs. Lendrum & Hartman Ltd., Buick House, Albemarle Street, LONDON, W.1. For attention of Mr. Eric Hartman. Dear Sirs, Thank you for your letter of the 5th July and also the enclosure from General Motors Export Co. in America. This is rather a peculiar situation. An order has apparently been placed by Mr. Olley in America, in which he has even specified the type of body, the colour of wheels, etc., and the first intimation we have had of this has come from you. Under the circumstances we have immediately cabled to Mr. Olley to postpone the order. As long ago as April I wrote to Mr. Olley and told him to reserve a chassis, but though since then he has written to me on various subjects he has not mentioned the Buick. On the 13th June when cabling about some other matter he remarked "General Motors Export London will see you about Buick, writing". I have still had no letter from him. As previously mentioned, we got in touch with General Motors Export and were surprised to find that in the ordinary way no cars would be in this country before the Motor Show. This would mean that we should have to buy a car without being able to try one at all which, as you will appreciate, is contrary to our usual practice. Our presumption up to date has been that Mr. Olley had failed to get a chassis provisionally allotted. | ||
