Reconsideration and testing of over-size tyres for cars.

X.917 R.{Sir Henry Royce} J.{Mr Johnson W.M.} 31. 7. 14. We note that Mr. Royce in his memo RL/P 28.7.14 says that he is reconsidering the use of over-size tyres. We are glad of this because we constantly have requests from customers seeking our advice upon the use of these tyres, and we have instructions from Mr. Royce that we should not recommend over-size tyres. It will be remembered that we have made a fairly extensive test of over-size tyres on experimental cars and they have been reported on favourably by Mr. Haldenby, who states that they are more comfortable in general use and the appearance is better than the standard section; also they are quite resilient and effectively fulfil the functions of a pneumatic tyre. Mr. Royce then passed the opinion that he thought these tyres would be a valuable improve-ment to our cars. After this letters were forwarded to Mr. Royce by Mr. Nadin from the Michelin Tyre Co. and the Dunlop Company, which contained statements which made Mr. Royce say: "We ought not to look | ||
