Flt. Lieut. Staniland.

When Flt. Lieut. Staniland came up the other day to see the Heinkel machine he asked me to make for him a pair of gears for his Alfa-Romeo racing car. Owing to the sanctions on Italy he cannot obtain any spares.

I agreed that we would do this as they are not a very big job and I consider it is in our interest to keep friendly with Staniland because most of our Merlin business is tied up with Faireys.

He expects to pay for the gears but I do not know whether you would consider it policy to let him have them free of charge.
