Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} c. Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} c. Ve. c. Lr{Mr Ellor}/Brns. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}4/ML.30.10.40. NOTES ON A MEETING HELD ON 29.10.40. Present : Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Ve. Ve/NP. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} 40 mm. GUN. 1. PRODUCTION. Two guns only have been delivered with potentially leaking glands. A third gun is back at Derby. It is thought that the gland trouble has now been overcome, and these two guns will be put right as soon as possible. Five guns have been proved in all. It is doubtful whether the seventh barrel will pass the D.N.O. Ve. expressed a wish to build up a gun from this barrel and other parts which would not pass inspection, and retain this gun for our own development work. The Admiralty have had a considerable amount of bother with the boat because the Power Boat Company did not strengthen the deck sufficiently at the first attempt. At the present moment, though production is rather behind programme, there are no boats actually waiting for guns. 2. POWER MOUNTING. The L.M. & S. have promised to complete their pieces of the power mounting in about three weeks. It will then be necessary for the Frazer Nash hydraulic gear to be assembled into this mounting before it is ready for test. 3. AUTOMATIC 40 mm. GUN. A simplified Rolls Royce magazine is in process of manufacture. A simple feed for firing five or six rounds only is on test on the Range. B.U.S.M. are getting on with their feed mechanism and magazine and will soon have something made. - Continued | ||
