Wor{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager}/EM16/LC1813, With reference to the points of introducing some elasticity into the steering mechanism, I had seen the report lately sent, and had written to say, that it indicated the clearance was not great enough, as the stiff spring in the buffer gave the greatest benefit. I asked for an increase in the clearance, and a retrial to be made with this apparatus. It is the pattern which has a set up spring at each end of the cross steering tube which is compressed on the road wheels striking an obstruction. Acute examination of this on the job I think would reveal some useful information, and enable a better test to be carried out. R.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
