X2934 To WOR.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} from E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} E.C./HP.9.11.32. c. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Y4-53 re Bensport J.1. A meeting was held of Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} Mm. and E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} in connection with the specification of the above chassis, and the following notes were taken: (1) Crankshaft. - The crankshaft will have 2 1/4 Journals, and 6/8 balance weights, and will be interchangeable in every way with that intended for standardisation on the 20/25. The same bearing caps will be used and bolts passing right through the crankcase. Design instructions will be out this week. (2) Crankcase. - The crankcase will have the same section and the banjo clearance as the 20/25. The dry sump should provide sufficient assurance that the oil will get away without causing any over-oiling troubles or excessive consumption. Design instructions will be out this week. The present oil gallery pipe for the main oil feed will be retained, and the only points that will be altered on the crankcase will be the flywheel casing, and possibly the mounting for the torque arms. (3) Dry sump and double pump and oil relief valves. - The pumps that were designed for the tank installation can be used on J.1. but a new bottom cover will be required for the lower oil pump on account of the oil relief valve having to be made shallower to get the requisite ground clearance. Design instructions should be issued this week covering this section. (4) Pistons. - The pistons already designed for J.1. which come flush with the top of the cylinder face should be used. Piece No. E.56610. (5) Connecting Rods. - Are as present standard 20/25. (6) Cylinder Head. - This will be to Lec.3119 in Cast Iron with turbulent head and 14 m/m plugs, with 1.4 | ||
