re. 40/50 HP. and 20-HP.
Pistons seizing up on new Cars.

We are experiencing this trouble with new cars which are being delivered to customers, also new cars at coachbuilders and with chassis whilst on test.

One has certainly to be most careful when starting up the present engines under cold conditions, i.e. to avoid excessive use of the primer and at the same time avoid the engine running at full throttle, especially high speed, until it has reached its normal warm condition.

As far as possible we are taking action to avoid this being done, but I am afraid we cannot guarantee that this will not take place whilst the car is in the customer's hands, or even in the hands of the coachbuilder.

We find that the trouble disappears after the car has been in service for some time.

It has been suggested that some extra oil supply should be inter-connected with the primer or carburetter control which feeds the cylinders, until such time as the engine is running under normal conditions.
