( 14 ) Slight oil leaks were experienced from the steering box. Handwritten: Hardy What about this Driver's fingers were trapped between the steering wheel spokes and the control knobs on several occasions. Rear Axle. LOP.G.83089 N.S.48II-I4. Axle N° 35-EX. 4 & I 8 x 34 ratio. Thick half shafts and necessary parts and new pinion bearings fitted at 9,500 miles and ran 12,000 miles. Squeaks from the pinion housing were reported early in the mileage and slack developed in the pinion bearings. This was due to end float of the front outer race of the thrust bearing, and to the roller race being loose diametrically and endways on the pinion nose. Over-run hum between 50 & 60 m.p.h. was audible at the end of the mileage and knocks occurred from the driving dogs. Oil leaks were experienced down the O.S. axle tube but stopped again. The original half shafts removed were twisted 15° - 20°. Rear Hubs. LOP. G.81902. The following new parts fitted:- Hoffmann N° 150 Ball Bearing replacing roller bearing. One of these, the outer bearing in the O.S. rear hub, failed after 15.000 miles, and was replaced by a new one. Front Stabiliser. LOP. F.87498. NS.{Norman Scott}4763. NS.{Norman Scott}4880. Diameter reduced from 0.687" to 0.575". The front roll-rod was fitted so that it would be available should rolling prove excessive with the Wraith wheel movement. As far as passengers were concerned the roll-rod made no difference, except that the front was slightly harsh with it. The car was pleasanter to drive when fully loaded with passengers and luggage with the roll-rod in operation, but it was perfectly controllable without it. It would be a useful feature to be available for service if complaints were received with large or overhanging bodies, but with the coachwork in question, the car was satisfactory without the roll-rod.
