-3- | Nature of Complaint. | No. of Cars. | Last Qtr's. Total. | Remarks. | |---|---|---|---| | Exhaust Blows. | W. 4. N. 37. P. -- 41. | 13. | The difference in expansion between the aluminium cylinder head and the exhaust pipes is so great that the washers do not cover the joints and are burnt away. We are now fitting a modified washer. | | Hydraulic Shock Absorbers. | W. 7. N. 18. P. 1. 26. | 18. | A rattle is heard which is caused by the movement of the connecting links to the piston. In the meantime we are changing the shock absorbers for ones with specially fitted links with reduced clearances. The links have also been strengthened to overcome breakages. | | Piston Knocks and Seizure. | W. 6. N. 11. P. -- 17. | 6. | This is caused by insufficient oil for starting purposes, and leaving the starter carburetter working too long. An extra oil supply which operates when the engine is started up has been designed. It is advisable to get out a similar scheme for Phantom I from P2H series onward. | | Springing Complaints. | W. 18. N. 20. P. 11. 58. | 44. | Uncomfortable riding is the cause of a lot of complaints at present. Our latest practice is to positively lubricate all the springs and alter the shock absorbers to give lower pressure over the smaller road inequalities, and a greater pressure for larger and quicker spring deflection at higher speed. | | ||
