BUY 271 Date 9.11.36. Report of visit to Rolls Royce Ltd., Representative: F.{Mr Friese} Blackith, J.{Mr Johnson W.M.} Watkinson, W. Plummer Handwritten note top right: Mr. Robotham Persons Interviewed Name: Mr. Robotham, Mr. Hall, Mr. Wheeler, Mr. Salt Position: Subjects Discussed: Bearings Attention of: Howlett Walden Mr. Maynard Mr. Woolcott Mr. Watkinson Mr. Plummer Preliminary points which we wanted to know were discussed at H.D.A. before proceeding on Wednesday evening to Rolls Royce where we had a discussion first thing Thursday morning. Present at the discussion were Mr. Robotham, Mr. Hall, Mr. Wheeler, Mr. Salt, Mr. Richards, Mr. Watkinson, Mr. Plummer and myself. One thing which came out in the discussion on AC.9 bearings was the point raised previously in that we could not get a specified hardness figure, no matter what the specification was of actual bearings, and it appears that Mr. Salt was mis-informed by his people, that is Rolls Royce, as the figure of 63 Brinell hardness, which he had quoted to us at the Show at Earl's Court, when he stated that their casting were very often around 63 Brinell, turned out to be the hardness figure after the first heat treatment, but Mr. Salt was not aware that these bearings had been heat treated. In any case, we pointed out that we did not get a hardness figure of 63 Brinell after the first heat treatment, and some discussion ensued as to whether we were checking for Brinell in the correct manner. Mr. Wheeler of Rolls, asked Mr. Richards why he used a | ||
