Y5840d Expl: Dept: Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd., Derby. Angleterre. 26th. June 1929. X 7980 Hotel de France, Chateauroux, Indre, France. Mr. Hancock from Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Gy. The Production Test have experienced trouble with regard to oil from the foot brake equaliser dropping on to the silencer. We believe this is simply the result of filling the shaft too full and our recommendations, after trying a chassis, are as follows : Fill each equaliser shaft with 33 cc's of oil by means of a syringe, or 3 turns of the new type oil gun. At the same time pack each differential with grease. We have found this latter step necessary in order to ensure oil getting to the top pinion of the differential mechanism. Could you kindly avail yourself of the first opportunity to do likewise on 17-G-IV. With regard to your note in connection with the behaviour of the central lubrication. Will you please do whatever you think is going to improve matters. Our own views are that there must be some leak somewhere that if the shock absorber levers are only receiving 2 drops instead of the minimum 5 and of the normal 6 or 7 per shot they are supposed to receive. contd :- | ||
