MIDDLESEX.

For the attention of Mr.A.E.Palmer.

Dear Sirs,

Phantom III.E.E.C. 42 Carburetters.

We have had several of these carburetters returned from service because of flooding. Our tests, inspection and photomicrographs enclosed show that the fault lies in the finish of the needle itself.

Any future carburetters that are flooding will be returned direct to your Works from service.

30 HP. DC.42.

We also have the fault of flooding on this carburetter; but in this case is caused by the flexible engine mounting.

The writer understands that a spring exists for use on the float arm to damp the float against fuel surge. This was mentioned to Mr.Fisher a long time ago. However, the writer would appreciate any information with regard to curing this trouble.

Another point that we are contemplating in conjunction with the flexible engine mounting is to delete the floatchamber air hole to the idle jet in favour of Mr.Fisher's air hole to the choke. This is linked up to the idle jet through a hole punched in the gasket and seals the air bleed from possible fuel surge. The writer will send a print along later as a modification to Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}467.

If you have any float springs in stock, will you kindly send half a dozen for test purposes.

Yours faithfully,

FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LTD.
