PISTON RINGS.

On the SS.{S. Smith} chassis so far we have instructed purely rectangular rings. We would like you to watch whether over-oiling is evident or not, as on the Phantom so far we have not been able to use a purely rectangular ring.

Mx.{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} has tried it on three separate occasions but in each case he has had to carry on with a ring having a scraping feature.. At present we are using a rectangular ring bevelled.
