| -3- Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/FJH.{Fred J. Hardy - Chief Dev. Engineer}2/KW.4.5.34. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}1382 shows the general arrangement of gearbox and cross member in chassis. (1) The tubular cross member is 3¼" O.D. We have not specified the thickness of this member as we think this may be limited by the practicability of putting in the necessary bends. We want your opinion on the possibility of bending this tube to the shape shown. (2) The brake pedal must be cranked in the same way as the present clutch pedal. A clutch pedal forging could be used with slight modifications. The anchorage of the pedal return spring should be placed on the offside of the pedal in order to clear the skew member. (3) The exhaust expansion chamber is moved back and shortened the least possible amount. We have not shown the cut out and its operating gear. We think this is best left till the gear box is in the chassis. (4) The wooden cross member on the body which supports the front of the front seats is replaced by a tubular steel member. This must be arranged to suit the floor level of the body. (5) The engine feet in line with the flywheel are omitted. (6) The rear brake equaliser shafts are moved back. (7) The propellor shaft is shortened, and reduced in dia. from 3.00 to 2.75" with the same metal thickness. Arrangements for the front engine mounting and stiffening for the front end of the frame are to follow. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/F.J.Hardy. | ||
