USE OF SHOCK DAMPER ARM AS SECOND COUPLING FOR PARALLEL MOTION ON FRONT AXLE.

Referring to Hs {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} /Rm {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} 's sheet and blueprint in which he demonstrated by experiment that the correct position for the axis of the shock damper lever was approximately 2" further back and ½" higher than the present position of lever axis on standard, we have made a lay-out, LF.385, of which we are sending a blueprint to Da. {Bernard Day - Chassis Design}

He will notice that it improves matters so far as the friction damping for the engine is concerned, but involves us in difficulties with the down-take pipe of the exhaust.

We think, however, that the pipe could be moved backward by putting a larger bend into same, and consider that if you discuss this matter with E. {Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} you could arrive at some probable compromise which would suit both.

In the meantime, we have carried on to help the Experimental Dept., and are producing details to LF.385; in using this we shall of course bend the exhaust pipe, but we thought if we send you a print from the lay-out you could give the matter consideration for a final design.
