Rear Spring - forward end anchorage with addition of stiffner & modified bracket (Solid eyes).

With reference to the anchor fitting for the front end of the rear spring, I have got Mr. Elliott to alter the design somewhat, which will still further reduce the metal and somewhat reduce the stress.

We are very anxious that every ounce of steel in springs shall be equally stressed, and in the design of this particular end, I think you will find on analyzing it, that it will work out lighter for a given stress in the way we now show it compared with our present practice.

X.1232 With reference to the anchorage of the front end of the rear springs, you will notice that we have still further imppved the design, and also considerably shortened it by using a solid eye to front end of the rear spring.

You will also notice that we do not show a second plate carried so far forward, and as it is not difficult to produce these solid eyes by the jumping process, I amsure you will find that for a good strength the spring will work out lighter.

Referring to the length of the second plate, theoretically this need only commence when the top plate becomes too weak to carry the load.
