standard car T.T. at point marked A. {Mr Adams}
At B it is slightly stronger than it
should be, 154000 instead of 148000
inch lbs, due to the fact that I did not
want the thickness of metal so near
flange to be less than .125 thick, as I
thought there was a danger of the depth
of cut being troublesome if I got down
to .100 thick.

The load on the ball end corres-
ponding to 130000 lbs stress moment at
A on G.2683, is 3500 lbs. This would
entail 6300 lbs at wheel centre to
balance it, which would cause a stress
moment of 6360 X 23.5 = 148000 inch lbs
at flange of axle tube. Now the
strength of the tube as shown at flange
treated as .150 thick (ignoring rein-
forcement) is 170000 inch lbs or axle
tubes are stronger than torque tubes
in ratio of 170/148 = 1.15/1
