BENTLEY III. FRONT SUSPENSION FRAME CROSSMEMBER.

We send herewith N.Sch.5186 showing the design of the front suspension frame cross-member for Bentley III. We have discussed the construction and the method of its fabrication in the frame with the chassis manufacturers, and have incorporated their requirements.

The crossmember is placed in position after the frame with its cross has been built up by being lowered down from above. After riveting and welding to the frame side members, the lower closing plate is fixed by either riveting as shown or spot welding or intermittent arc welding. All of these methods of attachment will be tried experimentally. The final operation will be to introduce and fix the boxing-in frame gussets between the cross and this crossmember.

Att: N.Sch.5186.
