B.V. GEAR BOXES.

Confirming our conversation this morning -

(1) You will re-fit box No. 8.B.5. to car 11.B.V. as soon as anti-rattle has been incorporated in the synchromesh. We understand a new side shaft has been fitted and that the first speed wheel will have been re-lapped.

(2) Box No. 9.B.5 should be rebuilt to its present specification and run on the dyno on 5.B.IV as soon as possible. It is important that the lay shaft roller bearings should have steel cages.

(3) We have suggested lightening the cones in box No. 10.B.5 (i.e. the first box with standard ratios) exactly as you have done in box No. 1.B.5. If this is done, and the lay shaft bearings have steel cages, there is a possibility the box will not have to be taken down again.
