File 29th October, 1938. C. T. Salt, Esq., Messrs. Rolls Royce Ltd., Derby. Dear Mr. Salt, Many thanks for your letter of the 26th inst., regarding the meeting at your Works at Derby, and as soon as we can get this matter fixed up I will write you further as to the day or days that High Duty Alloys and ourselves can come to Derby, but owing to the forthcoming Motor-cycle and Scottish Shows, and the Motor Show which has just passed, these have been hampering us in this direction, but as mentioned above we will write you giving at least four or five days' notice when we expect to be able to come to Derby. Mr. Richards I believe was in touch with you yesterday by 'phone concerning the last lot of material from which we have made bearings, and I also got in touch with Mr. Robotham on the same subject. Unfortunately the last lot of material was again out on specification, the Copper content being 1.43%, and we do feel that the main point is to get the material right, when we feel that the other matters of heat treatment will automatically follow and be correct, and we shall then be able to sail ahead with the production of bearings. You mentioned at the Show that you would be letting us have some information regarding the design of bearings - whether or not oil ways were advisable, and perhaps you would let us have any information you may have by you on this subject, as it is very helpful when making contact with potential users, and saves quite a considerable amount of time when dealing with the job. Yours faithfully, F Blackith Technical Manager. | ||
