HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} } FROM R.{Sir Henry Royce} BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} Copy to SG.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} Copy to WOR.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} ORIGINAL PHANTOM 2. EXHAUST HEATED THROTTLE. R1/M29.11.29. x7910. x7230. We agree that this should be done universally as soon as possible on all cars. We have sent a scheme for two stage expansion into bend. We now send one based on fishtail entrance to bend jacket. It is possible that if the jacket had small capacity there would be less noise. We like the exit pipe and separate small silencer better than joining the main silencer. We have sent a design for the malleable cast iron bend for the small feed pipe. An alternative is to cast the bend in iron and insert a small steel tube, and secure with welding through holes.
