[s]DR.[/s] FROM DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} [s]Copy to SG.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}[/s] Copy to HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}2/M29.11.29. [s]ORIGINAL[/s] x7360 x7930 PHANTOM 2. REAR BRAKES. This is to confirm having handed to you yesterday N. scheme 2989. shewing the wider rear foot brake shoes on P. 2. rear axle. There are two alternative proposals, the upper one suitable for existing drums, the lower one requiring a new drum. It is suggested one should be brought in as soon as possible as it gives a hand brake shoe of practically the present width. We intended to add the following notes to the drawing: (1) The dust excluder arrangement shewn in the bottom view was by way of a suggestion, and requires the new brake drum to be made of somewhat thicker material. It has the advantage that it gives definitely more room in the wheel arches. (2) We found that of the proposed methods of holding on the dust excluder shewn on N. sch. 2987., fig. 4. is not suitable for these brakes. We have therefore indicated something on the lines of fig. 1. (3) The additional length between the brake spider and the spring pad is not part of this experiment, but is in connection with the proposal to widen the rear track from 58.45" to 60". We think you should do this if you conveniently can. [STAMP: RECEIVED DEC 2 1929 AC] DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} | ||
