With reference to Br.1/A22.7.32.

Unfortunately we have no other valve steel that we can recommend. We have always found that if the tappets are set closely this trouble is worse than if a reasonable clearance is given. We know that by selection it is possible to get a set of quiet tappets that can be run at .006 clearance.

We suggest that you try and fit in with some tappets that will enable rather more clearance to be used. In the meantime we are pursuing several tests to eliminate the trouble.
