FLYWHEEL AND CLUTCH TO L.O.P. G.51601 NEW FEROD FABRIC FITTED TO CLUTCH STRONGER CLUTCH SPRINGS TO N.S. 3030
The clutch has given no trouble. There has been no sign of slipping, the engagement is quite good, no jaggers. There is a noise from the transmission if the clutch is disengaged quickly whilst a gear is in mesh. Clutch trunion is O.K. The clutch is rather slow in stopping when hot, attention has been paid to the setting
GEAR BOX AND ACTUATING GEAR TO L.O.P. G 53463
The gearshave re mained in good condition, the gear wing is up to the standard quality, change speed mechanism has functioned correctly, the plunger in the lever rattled at high speed, new rubber buffer fitted. There are slight leaks of oil from most of the gear box joints. It as not been necessary to add any oil to gear box during the remainder of the mileage.
SERVO MOTOR MECHANISM TO L.O.P. G 52118 AND NS{Norman Scott} 2970 NEW COTTON A FRICTION LINING G 54030 FITTED.
The servo squeaked slightly several times during the runs, it has been doped with a few drops of oil with no loss of efficiency. It is smooth in action. A damper to EX 4849 has been fitted to damp out the servo clank when serv is released. It as entirely damped out all noise and is operating quite satisfactory.
PROPELLER SHAFT AND UNIVERSAL JOINT TO L.O.P. G 54037
We again examined the universal joints, no loss of oil had taken place. The joints are a 100% job. The sliding portion of the shaft is not oil retaining. The oil to flung out on to the underside of the floor boards etc. It would be advantage if this loss could be prevented.
REAR AXLE AND REAR BRAKES TO L.O.P. G.53920.NS{Norman Scott} 2917 (.850 offset Hypoid 9 X 41 ratio)
The rear axle, ex_pt test, has again shown definate signs of failure, lateral play has developed, it is more definate when the axle is hot. The back lash of the pinion has increased 50% from when received and causes transmission noise when running slow. There is oil leaks from the top bolts in the case and oil leaks along the O.S. shaft into the hub. There is an objectionable overrun period at 48 miles per hour. An uneven note is given out and vibrations are felt. There is a period also on the pick up but not pronounced.
BRAKES.
The rear brakes are efficient, there are no squeaks, the condition of the shoes are very good, no appreciable wear has taken place. The braking surface of the drums is in very good condition.
FRONT AXLE AND BRAKES TO L.O.P. G 53676 BRAKE SHOES LINED WITH FEROBESTOS
The front axle is O.K., clips holding same to spring show
