To BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} FROM E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} C. to BJ.HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} X5290 E1/M.{Mr Moon / Mr Moore} 19.6.26. 20HP. UNDERSHIELD - X.5290. We send you herewith drawing LeC.2253., shewing modifications to the gearbox undersheet for the above. With the object of overcoming the trouble on the steering side of the car due to the vertical face of the undersheet reflecting mud splashes through the louvred underguards, this face has been stepped back about 3 1/2". for the sake of uniformity this alteration has been made on each side of the undershield and it has enabled us to reduce the size of the nozzles through which the brake ropes pass. These nozzles have also been made oval in form. The clearance between the undershield and the flywheel cover has been reduced, and the flywheel cover and crankcase have also had the flange altered so as to gain still more clearance. We have sent a blue print of LeC. 2253, to DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} to enable him to make the necessary modifications to the brake gear to suit this undershield. Referring to the front pan of the underguards immediately under the wheelcase of the engine, this was originally instructed with a raw edge where it looks backward towards the rear end. We find this is not stiff enough and that this pan in times becomes mis-shapen. We should therefore be glad if you will roll this edge over in the form of a bead, on the inside as indicated in the bottom L.H. corner of LeC.2253. If necessary a steel wire could be enclosed in the bead. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} | ||
