------------------

Messrs. Firth-Derihon advise that the joint manufacturing arrangements made with Messrs. Thos. Firth and Messrs. John Brown, covering supply of such details are not going ahead as rapidly as anticipated.

From present indications the best promises we can have for delivery thereof are as follows:

F.TYPE CYLINDER LINERS (Development Engine)

It will be Wednesday or Thursday of this week before initial supplies of the 24 we have in hand will be available.

F.TYPE CRANKSHAFTS (Development Engine)

These should be available the latter part of this week. Messrs. Firth will give us 24 hours notice as to when they will be ready, so that we can send a chassis through specially for their collection.

R.TYPE CRANKSHAFTS (X)

The 7 are now undergoing special treatment, test, etc., and from present indications initial supplies will not be available for 10 days.

R.TYPE CYLINDER LINERS - Piece No. 31438

Suitable Steel for these is not yet available. From present indications it will be approximately 3 weeks before initial supplies are ready.

I have advised Messrs. Firth-Derihon how important it is their promises should be anticipated if at all possible - emphasizing the fact that quality is of primary importance, and this must take precedence even if it means delaying delivery.

ROY. {Sir Henry Royce}
