Carburettor Trouble Finally and Definitely Banished!
PROCLAIMED BY LEADING EXPERTS
by the world's best and most scientific Petrol Filter
THOUSANDS IN USE
Impurities in Petrol cause 90% of all Carburettor Troubles.
MOTOR engineers have definitely proved that practically all serious engine troubles are due, in a large degree, to faulty carburettation, and that the trouble is not due to the carburettor itself, but to the dirt and water that get into the petrol.
Petrol may be absolutely pure when it enters the tank, but bits of fibre from the filling hose get in ; water condenses from the air inside the tank ; dust creeps in through the vents and chemical action loosens tiny flakes of metal from the inside of the petrol tank.
When a minute speck of this dirt or a bubble of water gets into the delicate mechanism of the carburettor, the engine sputters and coughs. Probably it refuses to start ; you use the choke too much, or you change the carburettor adjustment.
This is the commencement of very serious engine trouble, for raw petrol now enters the cylinders, forming carbon, and it gets past the pistons and dilutes the lubricating oil. Very frequently this is the beginning of scored cylinders and burned-out bearings.
To combat these difficulties, motor engineers, aviators and motor marine engineers everywhere are adopting the BLACKMAN PETROL FILTER which automatically filters the petrol whilst driving, and effectually and finally does away with all carburettor troubles.
" THE DAILY TELEGRAPH " said:-
The desirability of fitting efficient Filters in order that no deleterious matter may be carried into the carburettor from the petrol tank is not so generally recognised as it deserves to be. Recently the Blackman Petrol Filter Co., Ltd., introduced a new type of petrol filter, and its efficiency was demonstrated in practice before a large body of motorists during the recent Olympia Motor-Car Exhibition. Water, ink, cotton, fluff, and fine steel filings were all easily caught and trapped by the Blackman filter, so that nothing but the petrol itself passed to the carburettor. During cold weather motorists find it even more necessary than at other times to have their petrol as clean as possible, owing to the difficulty in starting, the greater chance of water getting mixed with the fuel, and the grit from mudded roads. The greater the efficiency of the filter the less the chance of trouble in starting-up from cold, and the better mileage given per gallon of fuel consumed. These petrol filters are easy to fit, cost only a small sum to purchase, and certainly save the motorist from many petty annoyances on the road, so that they repay their cost many times over.

TO THE NORTH POLE.
The whole of the Expedition leaving for the North Pole on September 15th, 1926, under the auspices of the British Government has been fitted with BLACKMAN PETROL FILTERS. This includes 6 "Brazier" 40 h.p. Motor Cars and 2 Aeroplanes.
ACROSS THE SAHARA.
Blackman Petrol Filters have been fitted to all the cars being used on the Expedition Mallaterre from Paris to the Sahara. The fact that the desert presents more difficulties as to carburettor troubles than any other part of the world is in itself sufficient tribute to the confidence reposed in the efficiency of the BLACKMAN PETROL FILTER.

ZENITH AVIATION CUP.
Paris, July 7th, 1926.
Gentlemen,
I have pleasure in informing you that I obtained entire satisfaction from the BLACKMAN PETROL FILTER that I had fitted to my aeroplane "ALERTE" with 40 h.p. Salmson engine, both from the point of view of correct functioning of the engine and of good carburation, the Filter eliminating all impurities. Thanks to the BLACKMAN FILTER, I was able to finish the race for the ZENITH AVIATION CUP Paris-Lyons-Paris without any trouble, and be assured that I shall recommend it for the service it has been to me.

Extract from "THE MOTOR BOAT,"
January 21st, 1927
"Although of recent introduction, the Blackman Petrol Filter has met with much success in connection with motor cars. In order to increase the field of utility, a new model has been just designed, and this is intended for motor boats. The filter is made in two sizes, the smaller of which is suitable for engines up to about 25 h.p., whilst the larger model is intended for higher powers."
"The petrol inlet is by way of the lower union. Any water, fluff or sediment settles in the sump at the lower extremity of the device. The sump is drained by unscrewing a combined thumb-screw and cap, this being permanently attached to the Filter to prevent its being inadvertently lost."
"Immediately above the sump is a perforated baffle. This is intended to keep any foreign matter which might tend to choke the filtering surfaces from out of the direct swirl. The gauzes which are four in number, are placed two at the top and two at the bottom of a brass drum, which may speedily be removed for examination when necessary. Not the least important feature of the device is the ease with which it can be fitted. The unions are of a special type, enabling petrol-tight connections to be made with a copper pipe without the necessity of sweating or brazing the joints."
"Recent demonstrations showed that the Filter is capable not only of removing water and other foreign matter likely to be found in the petrol, but when a quantity of steel was mixed with steel filings, fluff and ink, the petrol flowing from the Filter was absolutely clean, and the device showed no tendency to choke. We are of opinion that a filter should form a more prominent feature of the marine installation than is actually the case."
" . . . . MOTOR NEWS "
" . . . The main object of the ideal filter is to separate all foreign matter from the petrol flowing to the carburettor; but in addition it should maintain its efficiency over long periods with sufficient attention, and it should be easy to clean when this is necessary. A filter which conforms very closely to these requirements is the "Blackman," made by the Blackman Petrol Filter and Purifier Co., 10, Grape Street, 2005, Shaftesbury Avenue, W.C.2."
