X3547 Chassis Dn. from EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} c. to EH. EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}15/F14.11.19. RE. HIGHER OIL PRESSURES. x3400 x3547 In view of the fact that piston knocks are reduced by increased lubrication, we have been working to high oil pressures. This point was recently confirmed in a report from EH, and on all the cars we are now turning out the pressure is about 20 lbs, which is the limit of the gauge, and I feel we might still give more to advantage, but I do not think it satisfactory to allow cars to go out in which the oil pressure exceeds the maximum reading on the scale. The present gauges were supplied at the time when our normal oil pressure was about 10 to 15 lbs. I suggest, therefore, that you now instruct that on our present cars, oil pressure gauges should reach to at least 30 lbs, so that we may take advantage of our improved lubrication by high pressure, and at the same time the needle on the gauge will be in a reasonable position. I should be glad if you will let me know what action you propose to take on this matter. EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} | ||
