- 3 - BENTLEY present test concerning various points, such as, compression head, centrally mounted radiator, dynamo, steering, 14" drums and water excluders, rubber engine mounting and magnesium gearbox. It was decided to order 50 sets of magnesium dashboard and clutch pits for the Bentley in addition to ordinary production material so that they can be used as soon as available. The lower geared axle was also discussed and it was decided that this may form an intermediate stage until the introduction of the large bore engine. A broken production stub axle was produced and discussed. This had already survived 36,000 miles and various bump tests. A modified design has been issued. BY was to investigate how soon it could be introduced on production and whether it could be hastened by scrapping material of present design. It was decided that scrap should be made in order to hasten the employment of the modified design on production. Wor{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} suggested a Depot Sheet should be sent out for examination of existing cars in respect of this particular item. Large air cooled dynamo. W. are still endeavouring to get this out on 5-B-IV before it finishes its test in France. If they are not successful it will go on the next car. Big bore engine. Arising out of the tests with Works and Sales officials last week, Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} said that we preferred the big bore to the supercharger for better performance. It is proposed to build 6-B-IV with the big bore engine made on production lines. Patterns will have to be altered in respect of the stud centres. Re higher first speed gear - it was agreed that this would be desirable in connection with the big bore engine. Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} asked for a specification of 6-B-IV, and this is being got out. 6-B-IV will be fitted with anti-roll rod at both front and rear. Other Bentley matters. Front end movement was discussed and it was proposed to experiment with boxing-in the frame and any other means of stiffening. Meantime it was agreed to standardise the | ||
